![]() ![]() The sequel ruined the seriousness of the game but is still fun to play. The first red alert game was a great twist on history, what if Hitler had never risen to power, instead been replaced by the Soviet Union. The original game pits the Global Defence Initiative against the secretive Brotherhood of Nod, set in the not to distant future (the first set during the modern day and the sequel a few decades later). ![]() Although the quality of the games (except the graphics of course) seemed to drop with each new game this set is perfect for fans of the game or for strategy games in general. The original command and conquer was the first PC I played, it was a wonderful game with a great story and great units. The game that changes the strategy genre. But with the standard of games and the new 'gamers' out there replaying these older titles might get you bored easily and quickly but I still think this is worthly of a purchase. ![]() Great replay value to be had is probably it's strongest point that few could argue against. But I enjoy them just as much as the first time round. But I prefer content over graphics any day of the week.Ĭampaigns missions will keep you busy if you want to work your way through the game whilst the skirmishes will keep you hooked if you want an all out war.įor me, I find these games will get me playing them for a couple of weeks then I might not play again for months/years. The games no doubt show their age in the graphics department to whay else is out there. I am a fan of the series and the RTS (Real Time Strategy) style of game and these games deliver for those looking at a game to pick up and play to kill abit of time. However I have played most of the old ones (Tiberian Sun, Red Alert and all the ones that were on the original Playstation) Have had this game for a while and not played most of the games besides the first. I will eventually find out if they all run, probably with some reference to the forums and community solutions, and if not accept that with such PC technology development this far on from release that what I do get from this collection is more than enough for what I have paid. These are classic titles that can still eclipse many modern titles with their innovation and gameplay and I can't recommend them enough. There is a graphical menu glitch, but 17 years on no one should expect any of the games to run perfectly, playable is more than sufficient for me being as my originals now aren't. This includes an unofficial patch that allows the settings to be changed outside of what the original program will allow and an internet play option for C&C Gold.įor me C&C gold installed with no problems on W7 64, community patch the same and hardly any problems playing the first few missions. There is also an extras disk that I may or may not ever get around to viewing.īefore buying/installing it is worth doing research on the C&C decade forums, there are a lot of problems that people encountered and that the community has provided solutions where EA hasn't. The case comes with a manual of all the relevant unit information per game, with 7 game serial codes on the back. This does not include the original giant sized cardboard box versions of C&C1 and Red Alert as I will be keeping them anyway, but my main reason for buying this anthology was that neither now work on modern computers.Ĭ&C Gold and Red Alert 2 are actually now freeware, but require to be burnt to disk anyway so having one DVD and case for the asking price it is now is more convenient. As I can now get rid of all of the separates of these titles that I have bought over the years. ![]()
